Dumpster rental software for Tampa haulers

A dumpster in a Tampa street needs a right-of-way permit with a traffic plan, and the review can take three weeks. Inside the old city limits, commercial hauling also carries a 15% franchise fee. Here is what the city publishes.

Putting a dumpster on the street in Tampa

Street permit
A ROW (Right of Way), MOT (Maintenance of Traffic), FDOT, or Special Event permit is required to place a dumpster.[1]
How to apply
Accela, "Planning – right of way permit application." Upload a certificate of insurance, a site plan with the fire lane, and an MOT plan.[2]

Start the permit early

At 12 to 15 business days, a Tampa street permit can take longer than the job. Put the permit's start and end dates on the project when it comes in. DumpTracker warns you if the permit ends before the scheduled pickup. Permits are on the Pro and Elite plans.

Hurricane season

From June 1 to November 30, a storm can fill the board in one night, and the city runs its own debris clearing plan. Roofing jobs stack up at the same time. Lane-per-driver planning and texts from your own number keep customers from calling to ask where their can is.

The city is in the roll-off business too

Tampa runs its own commercial compactor and open-top roll-off service, and its waste goes to the McKay Bay waste-to-energy plant. Inside the franchise area you compete with the city and pay 15% to do it. New Tampa sits outside that line.

Where DumpTracker fits in Tampa

The rules don't change because you have software. Keeping track of them does.

Permits on the job, with a warning

Log the permit number, who issued it, and the start and end dates on the project. If the permit ends before the scheduled pickup, the project tells you before the city does.

  • Dump tickets and permits are on Pro and Elite.

Tampa questions

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street in Tampa?

Yes. The city requires a ROW, MOT, FDOT, or Special Event permit to place a dumpster. Apply in Accela with insurance, a site plan, and a traffic plan. A 2026 city guide says review takes about 12 to 15 business days.

What is Tampa's hauler franchise fee?

15% of gross commercial hauling revenue, with the agreement renewed each fiscal year. It applies inside the 1983 city boundary, which leaves out New Tampa.

Can I haul my own roll-off waste in Tampa without a franchise?

Self-haulers use a One-Year Hauler Permit, which costs $88.12. The form has boxes for roll-off and C&D, with disposal at McKay Bay unless stated otherwise.

Does DumpTracker help Tampa operators after a hurricane?

It helps the office keep up. Dispatchers move stops between driver lanes and set the order by hand. Customers see their status and window at a project link and can ask for a swap or pickup there. Drivers can report an issue with a photo, even offline.
