Dumpster rental software for Denver roll-off companies

Denver puts the street permit on the container company, not the customer. You need a city dumpster license number before you can even apply. Here are the rules we found, with links, and where DumpTracker fits.

Putting a dumpster on the street in Denver

Street permit
A Revocable Street Occupancy Permit (RSOP) from DOTI Permit Operations. Only the container company can get it.[1]
Before you apply
Get a ROW Dumpster License number. Submit the Dumpster & Container License Request Form first.[2]
Lead time
Allow 5 business days for permit processing.[1]
Permit fee
Not published on the permit sheets. They point to a separate fee schedule. Ask DOTI Permit Operations for the current rate.
Longest stay
180 days in any 12-month period at one address.[1]
Placement
Parking lane only, at least 20 ft from any corner, ramp, alley, or entrance. One permit covers up to 40 linear ft and 2 containers. Never block a sidewalk, tree lawn, hydrant, or alley.[1]
Markings
A 6 in x 4 ft reflective strip, vertical, on each corner. Or four vertical panel barricades with flashing lights on the street side.[1]
Hauler license and labels
Every solid waste hauler needs a city license, C&D included. Renew by March 1 and report tonnage each quarter. Company name and phone in 3 in letters on the street- or alley-facing side of each can.[4]

City rules are from October 2026, from Denver DOTI: Dumpster and container one-time permit (DOTIPT-104.1) and 6 other sources. Rules and fees change, so confirm with the city before you place a can in the street.

Watch the 180-day clock

A long remodel can outlast its permit. Denver caps a container at 180 days in 12 months at one address, and the annual residential permit runs out every March 31. On Pro and Elite, DumpTracker keeps the permit number, issuer, and dates on the project and warns you when the permit ends before the scheduled pickup.

Waste plans started September 1, 2026

Under the Universal Recycling and Composting Ordinance, new builds, additions, and demolitions over 500 sq ft need a Waste Management Plan before the city issues a permit. Interior remodels over 2,500 sq ft do too. Expect contractors to ask for proof of where each load went. Log the ticket number, net tons, destination, and a photo on each project, and the proof is there when they ask.

Setbacks you can see before the truck rolls

Twenty feet from a corner or an alley is easy to miss from a phone call. Put the can on the satellite map at its real size, mark the door side, and check Street View for the nearest alley mouth. The driver sees the same picture in the app.

Where DumpTracker fits in Denver

The rules don't change because you have software. Keeping track of them does.

Permits on the job, with a warning

Log the permit number, who issued it, and the start and end dates on the project. If the permit ends before the scheduled pickup, the project tells you before the city does.

  • Dump tickets and permits are on Pro and Elite.

Denver questions

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street in Denver?

Yes. Any container in the right-of-way needs a Revocable Street Occupancy Permit from DOTI Permit Operations. Only the container company can apply, and it needs a ROW Dumpster License number first. Allow 5 business days. The permit sheets do not address private driveways, so ask DOTI if you are unsure.

Can I use Denver's annual residential permit on any street?

No. The annual permit is not accepted on arterial or collector streets or at parking meters. Those spots need a one-time permit through e-Permits. The annual permit expires March 31 each year.

What does a Denver hauler license cost?

The city lists a $25 application fee plus a vehicle fee. The vehicle fee runs from $100 for 1 or 2 vehicles up to $1,200 for 21 or more. Renew each year by March 1.

How does DumpTracker help a Denver roll-off company?

It flags a permit that ends before the pickup date, which matters with the 180-day cap. It keeps dump tickets with net tons and destination on each job for C&D waste plans. Drivers get the placement map, access notes, and a drop photo step in a mobile web app.
