Dumpster rental software for Dallas–Fort Worth

In Dallas, the franchise and the alleys matter more than the street permit, which the city barely documents. This page covers the City of Dallas. Fort Worth and the suburbs set their own rules, so check each one.

Putting a dumpster on the street in Dallas

Street permit
Not published. We found no current city page for a dumpster in the street. Call Dallas Public Works before you place one there.
Street permit fee
Not published by the city. Local vendors quote numbers that do not agree, from $100–$150 to a $40 application fee plus a $200 minimum.[6]
Alleys
City Code 18-4(b) makes it unlawful to place any container in any alley unless the director of sanitation allows it.[1]
Hauler franchise
A company must hold a franchise to provide solid waste collection or hauling in Dallas.[2]
Franchise fee
Chapter 18 counts a roll-off box as a collection bin. The base fee went from 4% to 6% of gross receipts on April 1, 2025. Existing franchises change when their ordinances are amended.[3]
McCommas Bluff rate
$43.60 a ton commercial for FY2025-26. Cash, check, and card loads add $40 a load. Uncovered loads pay a $40 fee.[4]
Container labels
Not published. We found no city rule on name or phone markings.

City rules are from October 2026, from Dallas Sanitation: Alley service criteria and 5 other sources. Rules and fees change, so confirm with the city before you place a can in the street.

Keep the can out of the alley

Many Dallas neighborhoods get trash pickup from the alley, and the code bars containers there without sanitation's okay. A driveway drop needs to be clear before the truck shows up. Mark the footprint and door side on the satellite map, check Street View for the alley line, and put any gate or alley note in the access notes.

Tarp it or pay

McCommas Bluff adds $40 for an uncovered load. That fee is easy to avoid and easy to forget at 6 a.m. The driver can snap the dump ticket into the project with net tons and destination, so the office sees what each load cost.

Long runs across the metroplex

DumpTracker does not optimize routes. The dispatcher sets the stop order by hand, one lane per driver, and moves stops when a job slips. On Pro you can run 3 yards, and on Elite 10, which helps when you stage boxes on both sides of the metro.

Where DumpTracker fits in Dallas

The rules don't change because you have software. Keeping track of them does.

Permits on the job, with a warning

Log the permit number, who issued it, and the start and end dates on the project. If the permit ends before the scheduled pickup, the project tells you before the city does.

  • Dump tickets and permits are on Pro and Elite.

Dallas questions

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street in Dallas?

The city has no current page that says. Its 2019 tornado-recovery pages stated that dumpsters were not allowed in the City of Dallas right-of-way, but that guidance was storm-specific. Call Dallas Public Works before you put a can in the street. Vendors say a private driveway needs no permit, but we found no city text on it.

Can I put a roll-off in a Dallas alley?

Not without permission. City Code 18-4(b) makes it unlawful to place any container in an alley unless the director of sanitation authorizes it.

Do roll-off companies need a franchise in Dallas?

Yes. The city requires a franchise for solid waste collection or hauling, and Chapter 18 counts a roll-off box as a collection bin. The base franchise fee is now 6% of gross receipts.

Does DumpTracker do route optimization or GPS for DFW drivers?

No. It gives the office a day plan with a lane per driver and a hand-set stop order. Drivers use a mobile web app with Open in maps, access notes, and a drop photo. Customers get a project link and texts from your number.
